Borrego Springs, CA

February 20-22, 2026. We took an amazing drive through Joshua Tree NP heading southeast through Box Canyon, past the Salton Sea to the town of Borrega Springs. We had booked a lovely campsite at Anzo-Borrega State Park, which is the 2nd largest state park in the US (after Adirondack). It’s 600,000 acres of the most beautiful landscape that we’ve seen so far. The desert bloom had begun, so the wildflowers were putting on a show. Jeff played a round of golf after a morning bike ride, and Lea Ann explored the cute town of Borrego Springs. As the sun sank lower, the lighting was perfect to photograph some of the 100 animal sculptures that dot the desert…courtesy of the guy who owned the Avery Company (they make labels etc). Dinner at Carlee’s was fun, and after some stargazing we retired early so that we could get up in time to watch the US/Canada hockey game. Then a short hike…up the mountain before departure.
