Dana Point/Capistrano Beach CA

February 23-25 2026. What a great drive down the mountain from Ramona to the shores of the Pacific! Lots of high-fiving as we got our first glimpse of the “other” ocean. We walked around the harbor at Dana Point, and had a great dinner on the water at Wind & Sea. Our first campsite in San Mateo was interesting. It borders on Camp Pendleton, which is where Navy Seals are born. We had a great view across the fields-about 3 miles- to a training site that is purpose built to resemble a compound in Afghanistan. This is how our guys train for top secret very important missions. We could see flashlights moving around at 0300 hrs. Wild!

Early the next morning we packed up and headed down to Doheny Beach. This is a state park, with a campground just steps from the beach. Dogs are welcome😎. We spent the whole day on the beach…reading, walking, napping and talking with some really interesting people. We watched the sunset, made some dinner and retired early with smiles on our faces…including Chester’s.

Dana Point is spectacular. Beautiful homes, beaches shops and a very nice harbor. Also unbelievably expensive🤣. We will be back!❤️
